Satellite Internet systems offer high speed (broadband) Internet access to
almost anywhere with a southern view of the sky! Satellite Internet
systems bring high speed Internet access to areas where DSL, Cable Internet and
other services cannot reach by sending and
receiving Internet service via satellite. There is no need for a telephone
line, other than for support, should you need it.
Most satellite Internet systems consist of either a 28" - 39" oval,.74m oval satellite dish mounted on a wall
mount bracket, or a .98m round, 1.0m round or 1.2m round satellite dish mounted
on a pole or "ground" mount, a non-penetrating roof mount or on one
of our totally awesome, fully automatic mobile satellite Internet systems. A transmitter / receiver
unit is located on the satellite dish arm, and an indoor unit
(modem) is placed somewhere inside. Usually a dual run of RG6 coaxial cable (one
for transmit, one for receive) connects the transmitter / receiver to the modem.
The modem then connects to a computer network hub or to a wired or wireless
router via an Ethernet connection.
As a general rule in satellite equipment and service... the bigger the better
usually applies. For instance... if you intend to use your satellite
Internet system for one-user casual surfing and e-mailing, then a standard
residential satellite system with the smaller dish option and the smaller
monthly service package will more than likely work fine for you. If you
require Internet access for working from home, day trading, etc., remote
connectivity, VoIP (telephone over Internet) or other Internet activity, then we
would recommend a bit bigger dish, stronger radio and faster monthly service
package.
Internet speeds, bandwidths and capabilities depends upon equipment and the
monthly service package you choose. A variety of satellite Internet
equipment and monthly service providers and options are available from just
$49.95 per month depending upon your needs.
Below is an overview of the satellite Internet systems and services that we
offer as well as links to additional information for each. Please keep in
mind that this is an outline of the equipment and services available, and that,
with the exception of WildBlue and HughesNet, many other equipment and pricing
plans may be available!
WildBlue
HughesNet
LinkStar iDirect
Gilat

WildBlue Satellite Internet
WildBlue is currently the most affordable satellite Internet system and
provider available to the residential and small business markets.
WildBlue is a two-way satellite Internet system that sends and receives
Internet Access via one of two satellites, and a 28" x 26" satellite dish,
transmitter / receiver and satellite modem that provides a LAN connection to a
computer or wired / wireless router, etc. Since WildBlue uses "spot beam"
technology to provide you with service, your WildBlue system will only work in
your assigned beam, which is an approx. 150 mile radius of your initial
installation location. Although you can have your system and service moved to
another location in the U.S., you would have to have it decommissioned and
re-commissioned in order for it to work. Therefore this system is cannot
be used as a "portable" solution.
WildBlue Systems are typically marketed through WildBlue Dealers and DISH
Network Dealers. If you qualify for the system via DISH Network's program,
then equipment will run you $199.00 which currently includes a Free Standard
Professional Installation in our local service areas.
If you or your location does not qualify for a system via DISH Network, don't
worry... we can surely get you going if we hook you up directly from our
WildBlue Dealership but unfortunately it costs more to go through WildBlue than
via DISH, so it would cost you approx. $299 for equipment and installation if we
run you through WildBlue themselves. Lead time from order to installation
is typically 3 - 5 days via DISH, and approx. 5 - 7 days via WildBlue.
DISH and WildBlue both require a 24 month contract to service, which means you
must keep your account active for the first 24 months in a row.. after that, you
can start and stop your service as needed.
Equipment & Pricing:
28" x 36" dish, tria assembly (transmitter / receiver), Satellite Modem
$199 if purchased via our DISH Network provider. $299 if purchased via
our WildBlue provider
Lead Time: (order to installation) 3 - 5 days via DISH, 5 - 7 days via
WildBlue
Installation & Pricing:
Standard Professional Installation is typically included in the purchase of
your WildBlue system
WildBlue dishes are typically mounted on a south facing wall of your home or
business or on a 2 3/8" OD steel pole.
WildBlue offers service off of one of two satellites that are both in the
same general southern location.
Monthly Service Pricing:
512k down x 128k up = $49.95 per month
1mb down x 200k up = $79.95 per month
1.5mb down x 256k up = $89.95 per month
Contracts, Terms & Conditions:
24 month Commitment to service is required
Fair Access Policy is in place
Pros:
Affordable
Monthly Service can be billed alongside your DISH Network Satellite
Television account if available.
Local, U.S. English Speaking Tech Support!
Can be billed alongside your DISH Network satellite television service (where
available)
Cons:
Fair Access Policy is fairly restrictive, WildBlue will not support VOIP very
well if at all., Spotbeam technology won't allow the system to be moved.
No built in - user friendly pointing and setup interface, System must be
professionally installed and requires special equipment to do so.
WildBlue dishes require a clear view to one specific area in the southern
sky, so line-of site issues are common.
Available within the spotbeams of the Continental U.S. only!
Only 3 available monthly service plan options!
High user (contention) ratios restrict the number of "concurrent users" to 1
or 2 before drastically affecting speed and capability

HughesNet Satellite Internet
HughesNet is currently the most popular satellite Internet system used by
residential and small business consumers through-out the US and other parts of
the World. HughesNet is a two-way satellite Internet system that sends and
receives Internet Access via one of several satellites on our southern horizon.
HughesNet offers two dish sizes to fit your needs and service plans. The
typical residential dish is a 39" oval (.74m) dish, while the commercial version
is a 39" round (.98m) dish. The HughesNet system includes the satellite
dish, transmitter / receiver and satellite modem that provides a LAN connection
to a computer or wired / wireless router, etc. HughesNet does not use
Spotbeam technology and therefore, once a system is activated (commissioned), it
could be moved and used in other parts of the U.S., Canada, Mexico and
where-ever the satellite footprint offers adequate signal strength, which makes
the HughesNet system popular among RV'ers and those wishing to use the service
in more than one location.
HughesNet Systems are marketed through HughesNet Dealers. Residential
equipment offers basic connectivity for the service plans offering 200k upload
speeds or less, and is currently $299.00 after a $100.00 mail-in rebate.
Commercial Equipment is $599.00 after the $100.00 mail-in rebate.
Commercial Equipment offers better reliability and more capability than the
residential equipment and will handle all of the monthly service plans that
HughesNet offers. We recommend the commercial system for any VOIP, VPN or other
bandwidth intense applications and for the best reliability during rain and
snowfall.
Lead time from order to installation is typically 2 - 3 days for fixed,
5 - 10 days for mobile. A 24 month contract is required for service, which means
you must keep your account active for the first 24 months in a row.. after that,
you can start and stop your service as needed.
Equipment & Pricing:
Residential System: 39" oval (.74m) dish, 1 watt transmitter /
receiver, satellite Modem $399.98 ($299.98 after rebate)

High user (contention) ratios restrict the number of "concurrent users" to 1
or 2 before drastically affecting speeds and capabilities

LinkStar Satellite Internet
LinkStar is a two-way satellite Internet system that sends and receives
Internet Access via the Horizon 1 satellite on our southern horizon for U.S.
service, and other satellites for International service. LinkStar is considered
(in our opinion) to be a step above HughesNet and WildBlue and is typically
recommended when a system is needed to support more than 2 or 3 concurrent
users, or for better VOIP (Telephone over Internet), VPN (Virtual
Private Networking), and other bandwidth intensive application support is
required. LinkStar offers several dish sizes, starting at a 42" round (1
meter) and up to a 2.4m, to fit your location and service plan needs.
The LinkStar system includes the satellite dish, transmitter / receiver and
satellite modem that provides a LAN connection to a computer or wired / wireless
router, etc. LinkStar service is available to many parts of the World and
several service plans are available to fit your needs, starting at just $99 per
month for 512k down x 128k up, up to the $299.99 plan that offers 3mb down x
384k up..
LinkStar Systems are marketed through LinkStar Dealers and resellers.
Several equipment packages are available, starting at around $1700.00 for a 1
meter dish and 3 watt transmitter, up to $5000.00 for a 2.4m 4 watt system.
The 1.0 meter dishes need to be mounted on a 2 3/8" OD steel pole in concrete,
the 1.2m dish requires a 2 7/8" OD pole, and the 1.8m dish requires a 4" OD
steel pole and so on.
Lead time from order to installation is typically 2 weeks. A 12 month
contract is required for service, which means you must keep your account active
for the first 12 months in a row.. after that, you can start and stop your
service as needed. (Some fees may apply!)
